Today the CHP party is supposed to be selecting their new candidate for the post of mayor. Hopefully they will choose someone who can speak English or German as well as Turkish. Will let you know who, when I know.

Well we know now, the new candidate for the CHP party to run for Baskan (mayor) next month is the well liked Arif from the clothing shop next to Delta bar. Yes he speaks English and it is quite probable that he will win the election.
I shall try to find out what his policies are.
If any one was wondering why there are so many new childrens parks, it is because the council gets grants from the government for them.

I think Mehmet Metin was talking about running for Mayor when we out over New Year.

I have no idea what party it was for though.

Yes you are right, Mehmet Metin is running for mayor under the DHP banner and there is a whole building with his photo emblasened on in Dalyan, the old Tem electrical shop oposite Mudo Marina shop.
Although I like the Metin family, DHP does not have the support localy that CHP does. It could of course be down to whoever provides the best free dinners and lunches etc. Politics are a bit weird here.

Turkish politics are way too difficult to explain here, I must apologise Mehmet Metin is standing for DSP not DHP. That is the democratic socialist party although I don't think they are his politics, he is using it as a vehicle. Don't forget the current Baskan got in as CHP and then changed his politics to AKP to get more resourses from the AKP led government.
CHP is Ataturks old party, secular and conservative and very popular in the western part of the country and most likely to gain much local power in the local elections. Dalyan has always been predominately CHP, but with the economy doing so well under the AKP Mr Tufan got in for a 2nd term. His time is now up and the mood has swung the other way, so I think CHP is most likely to win here.
Anyway this is Turkey and anything can happen.
As to the Dalyan, Okcular thing and Tapu's, I believe in the long term, Dalyan must absorb as many local villages as possible to build up its political kudos, in some things it is controled by Ortaca and in others by Koycegis and overall by Mugla. So it needs to be bigger to get stronger.
Foriegners, cannot vote but I think they can influence a bit through discussions with friends and considering we are the village's best customers they should take some notice of what we say.

Its Carnival time!!!!! Oh, no its not it is still the elections, only 5 more days to go!! To be honest you should be here to see it, as much bunting as you could possibly string up, anywhere and everywhere, and the town populated by men in suits with brightly coloured ties and smartly dressed women seemingly thronging the centre, talking, drinking tea and eating cakes and biscuits. A far cry from the scruffy lot we are used to. The noise from the dolmus's decked out with loud speakers the size of a fridge can be deafening.
