Some people do not realise just how much of our ancient history there is in Turkey.
Within a 3 hr drive there are more antiquities and ancient wonders than you can throw sticks at.
So if this is your thing and you are a party of 2 or more, hire a car, get a map and go exploring, if it is hot you are never for from a decent beach and if you have a very long day you can always stay overnight somewhere, you can find everything from cheep pansions to inexpensive resorts just for a night.
Just beware maps are not comprehensive and road signs are few and far between. Another tip is to keep the tank full if you are going off the main roads and always keep plenty of chilled water with you. Enjoy.

Yes, mainly Fethiye way apart from Kaunos.
Caddianda which is reached by going past the main turnoff to Fethiye and then onto the Uzumlu road, set in a forest on top of a small mountain, little visited but has a good feeling about it and great views.
There is a very strange site just off Sarigerme beach, not advertised at all and it is fenced off, we found it by walking from the beach to the left of the Iberhotel.
In Fethiye there is the castle, great restaurant by the way, many tombs of various styles etc. and Kayakoy is quite a strange site too.
Then off the road towards Kas and Kalkan there are many important sites. Too many to list. The idea is to get a map and go looking for anything you have never heard of and go exploring.There are bits of antiquity that you can find with no information at all, just leave it to your imagination. Try it it is fun.

You also have Tlos which is on the way to Saklikent.

There is [was] a Selcuk bridge I wanted to go and see but I am afraid I might be too late as it was going to be submerged when the dalaman dam came into operation.

im not one for driving whilst abroad, the authorities seem to take exception to drunk drivers everywhere these days, so we would probably go everywhere by dolmus or boat.
whats the situation there with the boat cooperative?
what does it cost to get to the beach, or across to the tombs for instance, do they operate set hours, or are there always boats around while ever there are paying customers around?
please also bear in mind that i am cheap, so dont say "its ONLY x lira to the beach" if x is more than 1.5, rather say "it is less than x lira", then i will think it's a bargain.

It is very easy to drive here, but if you like a drink or 3 don't drive. You will know or find out from experience that yes, most Turks drink and drive, however if you are involved in an accident you will both be breathalised and no matter whose fault it was, the drinker will be deamed responsible and have the book thrown at them.
As for prices to and from the beach, it has not realy started yet so the new prices have not been fixed yet!
When I find out, I will post it on the info section.

Dolmus prices have gone up this year, It was 1.75tl to Okcular this month as opposed to 1.5tl last year. Think it is 2.75tl to Ortaca.

Yes, it's 2.75tl to Ortace on the dolmus and I think that's the price to the beach as well, according to the price list on the bus. I went over to the tombs last week, but can't remember how much I paid. Too much sun and Efes have addled the brain - or is it having to go back to work that has dulled the memory?

Only 4 weeks to go before I return!

I again refer to my posts that not everyone gets drunk whilst in Dalyan. But sometimes it helps. Sorry I have forgotten what this post was about but we must stop refering to Efes etc. otherwise it will get like Easstenders and I shall definately go off and commit suicide.

Saklikent and Tlos are worth the visit.
Tlos you have to be careful as you are on all ancient sites as where you walk is very uneven.
Saklikent is brilliant for a hot day as its so cool and refreshing to walk along.
