I think it is about time that beer had its own thread, the trouble with all the other threads is it ends up being a discussion about beer.
So here goes, June, I have never heard of Yesil Efes, you say they had it in Istanbul Airport? Perhaps it was there for market research. Did you try it and more importantly was it any good?
Good news for m1cksut I went into LT's bar to see what they stocked, yes they have Dark but no they did not have Fici so I have asked them to look into it.

No Steve, I didn't try it - I think it was 11TL so out of my end-of-holiday price range.
I've also seen Dark Brown Efes, which is different from Dark Efes, apparently.
Raki's my other tipple - what is Fici?

Fici is draft beer in a bottle or can and is slightly less fizzy. There is also an export Efes pilsner in disposable bottles that is very nice, I think it is the same as you get in the UK.
I think the British Navy is dry now but the Med fleet used to have Efes on board.
Tuborg also do Fici in cans and bottles that I think is slightly better than the Efes version especially when it is on offer.
Going slightly off topic, I love Raki and all the other versions of it but I have proved it is very dangerous stuff and kills off zillions of brain cells.
My Doctor friend and I conducted an experiment one night with me drinking Raki and him Irish whisky. At the end of it I fell off the side of the mountain we were on and had to be taken to bed.
A week later we tried again but this time we both drank the Irish, polished off one and a half litres and both of us were fine, pissed but completely compus mentis.

Hi Dalyan Steve
We are arriving very late 3am after a long flight to stay in a private villa. We do like a cool beer (even at that time in the morning) before we get our heads down - you know what its like when you first arrive. Can you buy effes or similar anywhere as late as this? #any help would be appreciated.

It may surprise you all but yes you can. Most 24hr petrol stations sell cold beer and the Deniz market oposite the shell petrol is open 24hrs as is the little shop on the roundabout with the Turtle statue. You can ask your driver to stop so you can get some.

Forgot to say, don't buy beer at the airport, incredibly expensive, just ask the driver to stop somewhere such as the first garage after the airport, tell him "bira istiyorum, lutfen" he will get the picture.
Of course he might take you to his uncles, cousins, nephews shop, but hey thats how you keep it in the family.

Just to let you know, I am in absolute beer heaven. Walked in to my local Tesco this morning just to get some eggs and a paper and there lo and behold, was a 4 pack of Efes! Whoo hoo. Will be enjoying these tonight with my other half. Obviously not as good as drinking them in Dalyan, but will whet my appetite for September.
Put this picture on your telly and sit close and enjoy your efes

Well Andy that is one place I have not had a beer yet! Plenty coffee and soft drinks but never thought of having a beer there.
Went to the Gunlukluk at Marmarli last night, good food and prices, good service but was horrified that the beer was 4 lira, told them to have a word with the Baskan about it because it would be full if they charged less.
PS. I know it is rude to ask but how much was the Efes in Tesco and what size bottle?

Thanks for the pic Andy. Steve the Efes is a 4 pack of 33CL bottles for the grand price of £3.99. Will be a regular on the old weekly shop! I'm walking home from work too tonight, 2 miles, but fear not I am not leaving them at work, can't wait to get home and sample the delights.
Morrisons and Budgens sell large (50cl) bottles of Efes for £1.25. Ideal for keeping my hand in until my next Dalyan visit. Trouble is, I don't really need a large beer, but the small one isn't quite enough!

Sorry crazytomato, I have never seen Dutch beer in Turkey yet! There are a few German brands and of course some multinational brands.
Have just found out that Efes Dark Brown is the coffee flavoured beer I was talking about somewhere else and Gusta now has a Dark version. Lastly Marriaci beer now comes in 2 versions the original and now Black label, still can't be bothered unless it is on offer one day very cheap somewhere.
