I have noticed on another forum that there seems to be an end of season mini crime wave in Dalyan - Villas burgled etc. The police are apparently VERY onto it but has anyone had a problem or heard anything of this ?
Will find out what i can when we go over on Thursday
some forum Dalyan residents may know what the score is at the moment

I read and hear so much about these burglaries - and yes they do happen but everywhere - not just in Dalyan. Are there no burglaries in the U.K., or, looking at the Marmaris forum on TLF - is there not any crime in the U.K. at all??? Reading these posts and how disgusted people are at it happening in Turkey I am amazed that they seem to expect to be wholly safe and secure in good old Turkey. Excuse me - but they are human and a lot are very poor - not an excuse at all but crime is everywhere where people live. You have it - they want it; you flaunt it - so expect to be 'done'! Come on folks you are safer here in Dalyan than I was living in the U.K. where I wouldn't go out at night by myself - but I can here. Yes there is the odd bag snatching, there are some people molested but oh, so very few compared to the shootings, knifings and murders that go on in the U.K. Just be aware here as you are there and all should be okay. Enjoy this country and the freedom you have here, don't expect the worst and you won't get it.

I wasn't suggesting a murder or anything, just wondered if there was anything specific to watch out for.

OY!
but yes,i had a great time, and got some REALLY nice jewellery and cameras!
My house is in Arik Basi and this summer saw a few burglaries in the area. Saying that, the jandarma are very aware of this and drive past every night. Only thing is they can't be everywhere at the same time.
When I was over in March on my own, I had a nasty shock one evening when I went for a shower without locking the doors. A member of the local community who thought I was in England, saw my lights on and informed the jandarma they thought someone was in my house.
I came out of the bathroom to come face to face with 2 jandarma pistols in hand and an entorage of inquisitive locals behind them.
That will teach me. But in all seriousness at least local people are keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.

I now understand the nature of your query, I take it you are looking to buy here?
I live in an area where nearly all the neighbours are Turkish and live here all year round, we have not had any burglaries, touch wood.
It seems they are opportunistic and are mainly targeting villas etc that have holiday lets and a few residents in areas that are not populated all year round and where they and their foreign neighbours are regularly out at the same time. All of these scenarios hint at knowledge of movements or changeovers.
When you do buy a property, invest in a small safe that can be hidden from view to keep documents etc in. Try not to keep large amounts of cash with you or in the property. When buying expensive item or paying for work done, make a big deal of having to go to the bank to get the cash out, including say buying a television or aircon from a shop like Migros, if you are not paying by credit card, reserve the item, then go and get the cash from the bank.
This all may sound a bit daft, but if unsavoury characters are watching your movements or spending habits, they will soon lose interest if they realise you do not carry cash except for a specific purpose.
If they are after specific things, like computors, phones or televisions, make sure all these things are covered by your household insurance, after all if they want to get in they will.

my friend has just been broken into - they were in bed and didnt hear a thing - the burglars broke in through a downstairs window and got away with money, jewellery and some personal things. the buglars had actually been in the room they were sleeping in. Their neighbours got broken into on the same night. its such a friendly and fantastic place who would think it!!
