Free Turkish Language Course
I have been asked to let members of the forum know that Ortaca's Kaymakam
(the Governor of the Ortaca area, including the villages and Dalyan) has
offered to facilitate a Turkish language course for English speaking
foreigners. The classes will take place in Dalyan, subject to minimum number
of 15 participants. Only a handful more are needed to add to the
fast-growing list to make this course viable.
If you would like to take up this offer please give your name and tel. no.
or email address to Janet.

is there not some outraged headline in the local equivalent of the daily mail?
"These skiving foreigners, come over here, steal our jobs, take all our council villas, and cant even be arsed to learn the language before they come? Why should the poor, put upon council tax payers pay to teach these people to speak the language? if we went over there, you can be damn sure we would have to learn THEIR language ourselves! etc etc etc"
happens all the time over here, still, we british ARE noted for our tolerance, aren't we?

Hey - if a foreigner goes to Britain they have all the books about subsistence claims etc in so many languages they don't have to learn English at all!!! At least we are trying and I can tell you Turkish is not an easy language to learn. I learnt German and French a lot easier and quicker - I admit I was a lot younger though - perhaps age has something to so with it. I know we needn't bother as most people are learning English but it is so nice to be able to manage in their own language, if only badly and with a lot of mistakes and giggles along the way. Try it yourself and see what it is like!!! Good luck. Don't forget we can't claim for anything here - unlike in Britain.
