Polisan Paint's Sales & Marketing Director, Reha Tepe, came to visit our village primary school on 2nd November. This has been a long anticipated meeting; he and we have waited nearly 9 months for his busy work schedule to allow him time to make the trip from Istanbul to Okcular.
It has also been something of a 'pilgrimage' for him ever since he saw the first photos of the wall mural project and was overwhelmed by them.
We appreciate his coming and the commitments that he has made to give further practical help to the village.
So, what can he and Polisan contribute? Well, there will be paint made available to finish off the rest of the walls with murals; Fiona and Gulay want to start art classes with the children and we shall ask for 'artists' type paints to get that started. The muhtar has been told to submit ALL of his paint requirements for the new village building (he was pretty excited to be given that offer), and the mural team can ask for paint when we are ready to get started on that same building.
Some folks were hoping that there would be money available for the school for things like new windows, doors and toilet block but, as Reha Tepe explained, the company cannot be drawn into individual cases regardless of how much merit they may have. It is worth noting that in June of every year Polisan gives away all of its surplus/old stocks of paints to schools around Turkey for redecoration and refurbishment.
I think we in Okcular can feel very content with the contribution that has been committed to.
Thanks to those who came by to give support.
