    Default Hi, I am Steve

Hello, my wife Sandra and I have lived full time in Dalyan for 10 years and we lived in Kemaliye for a year before that. I have only just found this site as I am recouperating from major spine surgery so I have not got a lot else to do, hence all the new replies. Yes I chose to have the operation here at the Ahu Hepman hospital in Marmaris and yes it seems to have been entirely successful and yes I do hearitly recomend Turkish hospitals, this is not the 1st operation here.

    Hello Steve

Hope you make a swift recovery.

I've been in Dalyan on and off for a few years, based there since this Spring.

Hope to bump into yourself and Sandra in town!

    Hi Steve and Sandra

Welcome to the forum, those of us not lucky enough to live in Dalyan have to get our 'fix' in between visits, so find the forum helps to keep us informed on what is going on. We have 5 weeks booked for next May just the winter to get through first!

When introducing myself, I forgot to mention that I am also the local warden for the British Consulate (Fethiye branch) in this area, although unpaid, I try to encourage the English residents to register with the consulate.
Some people absolutely refuse, for whatever reason, but the idea is purely to have some sort of contact and next of kin if the worst happens. 2 examples are, you could be involed in an accident and the Jandarma will contact the consulate to inform your next of kin. This is difficult if they have no idea. The other main reason for registering is in case of a disaster, natural or otherwise, specialist help can be sent from the UK or mass evacuation organised.
The point of this is, in the Fethiye region covered by this consulate, Toparlar along the coast to Kas, there are thought to be around 5,000 Brits living full time. Last year there were only around 400 registered, so supposing there was compulsory evacuation, the Uk should send 1 big plane to evacuate those known to be here when it would need to send at least 10 jumbo jets for all those clamouring 5,000 people at Dalaman airport.
