Welcome vicki & bob, am sure you will enjoy Dalyan. There are some lovely walks in the area and lots of birds to see.

Recommend a walk to Caunos, there is also a book on Okcular available that has four or five walks that vary in length but are well worth it.
I have a photographic memory, but sometimes I leave the Lens Cap on.

Hi Vicki - we stayed at the Asur Apartments on our first visit back in 2006 (we go back in March for our 14th visit to Dalyan so be warned - it is addictive)

Asur is a very pleasant location on the river with a boat for trips along the river, nice pool, you'll be well looked after but be sure to fully explore the town and surroundings rather than allow yourselves to be encouraged to stay around the hotel - when we were there 'Mr Boss' suggested that the town wasn't safe - don't believe him!

You'll be at the far end of town but it doesn't take long to get from end to end so not a problem - first restaurants you'll come to on left going toward town all have great location with views of the rock tombs but are amongst the most expensive in town and not the best - seek out the more genuine Turkish eateries for great food and value

Thoroughly recommend the Okcular book of walks and background to the village - lovely walks with the Ley Ley Restaurant as a great start and finish point and Caunos - fabulous views over Dalyan and down to the sea, keep your eyes open for lizards and snakes!

Pop into the M&M Bar - first bar on right as you get to the main town - for organised walks on a Sunday also nice walk to Golbasi Restaurant on the beach road passed citrus groves and cotton fields, lots of wildlife in the drainage channel by the side of the road (spot the kingfishers), you may have to pick your time in June to avoid the heat of the day. You can also walk Iztuzu beach (45 mins end to end) go by dolmus and back by boat or vice versa but again you'll need to watch the heat, no shade.

Pleasant promenade along the river in town then follow the path as the river bears left opposite the Tin Tin Bar for a nice walk with several refreshment stops on the way

We're there for the whole of June so may bump into you!

All in all an inspired choice for walking, wildlife, local food and good company - you'll have a great time

    Mike

Thanks to all for the advice and information regarding The Azur and Dalyan - its all sounds great and we intend to buy the Book and do the walks in the area as suggested. As I sit here on a very grey cold days I also "Cant Wait" to see some sun. Any other recommendations re restuarants trips would be welcomed.

Everyone has their own favourite restaurants - generally the food's very good so you can't go far wrong. you'll often pick based on the people rather than any huge differences in food quality. As a general tip I'd recommend you take a look in the cold cabinet wherever you go - often fresh dishes that aren't on the menu specially starters, fish is fabulous - there is a difference between the uniformly sized farmed bass and bream and the wild fish that they've bought from the fisherman, again look at what they've got

Our tips would include Ali Baba's in the centre of town and Saki on the river at your end of town by the council tea garden - both have no menu but they'll explain what's in the cabinet. For VERY cheap and tasty try Chagri just off the market square or Atay Dostlar opposite the playground by the mosque

    Have fun!
