Thread: Meal Ideas!

  1. #1

    Default Meal Ideas!

Right, looking for interesting and exciting suggestions here!

I'm pescatarian, which although it sounds like rastafarian means I don't eat meat but do eat fish and various other swimming things (might draw the line at ducks though). While I know that a lot of turkish meals involve lamb or beef I'm hoping that interesting seafood ones are about too!

So, any particularly good seafood/non-meat dishes to recommend? And where to try them?!

nah, EVERY meal in turkey involves at least half a lamb or a whole cow or a fetlock or two of grand national winner (delicious by the way).
chicken kebabs only have a LITTLE beef in them, and vegetarian meals only contain animals that eat grass.
apart from that, you will be fine.
apparently you can get fish dishes, but only if you ask for them!
    weird or what?
im cancerian myself, but im not keen on cancer, strange innnit?
see that little girl in the red coat?
    her name is Leah.
    that's my princess, that is.
one day soon, i'm going to bring her to Dalyan.

    Hi b-baxter

Dalyan has fish to die for (not really) one speciality is fish cooked in salt a great speciality and needs ordering the day before - before having ANY fish dish ask the price as most restaurants charge by the weight after you choose from the fish bar. Sea Bass and Sea Bream are superb and usually very fresh as they are caught locally. Blue fin crab caught by the beach are also delicious although fiddly to eat. Seafood pizzas are also available in many places.

Lots of vegetarian dishes are available - just ask.

I think your first port of call should be a little known restaurant up by the Portakal Hotel called the Gel Gor, fish of all kinds are their speciality and is mainly frequented by locals.

    Excellent, sounds lovely!

Which also brings me onto another point, does anyone have a nice map of Dalyan with important points of interest (i.e. places that serve beer) on? I've actually no idea of the layout of the place! Or even where my apartments (Fatih) are!

worth a look at the Kaunos Tours web site (www.dalyan.co.uk) - lots of info about Dalyan and the area. Don't take too much notice of the bar and restaurant reviews - they re did the site from last year and wiped out all the history, so there are only a few of each mentioned at the moment.
Download their travel guide 2009 and a map of dalyan is in there - not the best, but will give you a feel for the layout
As for points of interest ( watering holes) - if they were all shown on the map there would be little room for anything else - it would probably easier to mark places you can't find a beer or two
When are you going? We shall be there again from 4/9 to 18/9. only 4 weeks to go!!
