Keskin Hotel

Having just returned from this hotel,i must say i was very very disapointed.It was my first vist to Dalyan,but not my first to Turkey.I was half board and found the food very poor indeed,there was also a total lack of entertainment,and a swimming pool totally unusable to non swimmers.For two days my room went uncleaned and i was offered a lame excuse as to why.

I also found that the Polish Community where all inclusive and this was not a service that was offered to anyone else other than them.The reception area was manned by a guy casually dressed and totally unwilling to stand up when discussing things or even when paying the bill.

It was extemely off putting to see the staff waiting in the wings to pounce on any food that was left a minute before 9 o clock.I have visited Turkey many times before and have always experienced extremely good quantity and quality of food and service.The total set up of this hotel lacked any professionism.I found Dalyan a lovely place to be,but i do feel that having discussed my experiences with other holidaymakers,this hotel is far from being a good assett.

sorry to hear you had a bad experience, as a previous visitor to turkey you will have probably recognised that the quality of hotels varies enormously, even in the same street, let alone the same resort, this is not always the staffs fault, i once stayed in a hotel in marmaris where the staff were great, but the management were apalling, and tried to control the staff in everything they did.
the hotel too was fine, but as it was the managements first year in the resort, they didnt seem to trust the staff that had been there for a while, so were always on their back.

I am sorry too that you had a bad experience, and also surprised. Please tell me that you complained to the managers/owners of the hotel when you were there. There really is no point in complaining afterwards when it is always best to do so at the time. That is appreciated by everyone as it gives them the chance to redeem themselves and their hotel or restaurant. Please everyone, if you have a bad meal, room, rotten staff, or anything that upsets you - complain at the time, it helps everyone!

I did complain to both the management and the Thomas Cook rep.The thing that was a little frustrating i had gone with friends who where not sure about Turkey and i had informed them that the quality and quantity of the food was nothing to worry about.Silly things like no soup and more than one main course choice would of made a whole lot of difference.On one occasion it was either fish or nothing,and most of the time the food was overcooked.

This is something that i have never ever experienced before in Turkey.I am not a fussy eater either.I have to admit i did find it inappropiate to see the staff helping themselves to the food before other residents had eaten.I have to say this would not put me off visiting Dalyan again,but definately not this hotel,unfortunately i cannot say the same for my friends.

On a positive note about the Hotel,the Beach BBQ was superb,but this alone was not enough.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at the Keskin,we have stayed there on our last 10 visits to Dalyan on b/b though and have always found service and cleanliness top class although we always go in June or September,perhaps they can't handle the amount of people during the main season.I know some friends of ours went h/b and they too wasn't happy with the evening meals. I know the pools are quite deep but all the other hotels we have been to in Turkey have been the same with no shallow end,did you try the small round pool that is quite a bit shallower.
With regard to the Polish issue their rooms are booked for the season regardless of whether they are occupied or not and so are done on all/inc.plus the fact they pay twice the price us brits do.
I know this might sound like a publicity blog for the Keskin but you can only speak as you find and I must say that we and many other people we see returning year after year can't all be wrong.

I have known pools with a shallow end,we stayed at the Samira and that did have a shallow end.We did look at the other pools,but i still think they where 1.40 metres.We did opt for h/b and it would appear that your friends had similar issues to ours.As for our maid the excuse given for not cleaning our room,was that she just ran out of time.The hand dryer in the ladies toilet did not work,and we reported it,but it was still not working when we left.

I know to some these things may seem small,but they mount up.Its not something that i have ever experienced before.I have never seen management going around in jeans and t.shirts before.Like i have said it did not spoil the holiday,but with a little more care it could of been superb. Maybe you are correct Keskin Les,maybe they were busy,but a lame excuse.

Like Keskin Les we too have stayed in the Keskin many, many times over the last few years and never experienced any problems. However, we have always been B&B; I really can't understand why the holiday coompanies go for halfboard in Dalyan when guests would be much better eating out at the vast number of restaurants but I suppose there is money involved!
As for Ferhat (the guy I expect you refer to on reception) I do know what you mean, sometimes compared with a bubbly, English style receptionist in uniform he might seem a bit serious.
We are visiting the Keskin again in 3 weeks so will pass on your comments as I know the private owners will be v keen to hear your thoughts & the fact that you felt so strongly that posted them on here.
My advice would be to give Dalyan another try but stay B&B next time or even in a villa.

one of the things i think you have to do with turkish hotels, or indeed any holiday resort hotels, is approach them from a different angle.
for most of them, if you have booked through a travel agent/package deal etc, they get paid a couple of quid a night for each room you occupy, as opposed to even a grotty b&b in britain charging £20 or more per person per night.
now, for this couple of quid you get a room that is usually cleaned daily, usually 24 hour reception, often breakfast, swimming pool, etc etc.
if some things arent up to hilton international standards just remember you are paying youth hostel prices or less, something has got to give.
also, this is the reason some hoteliers are unfriendly if you dont eat there, thats where they can make some money from you.
checkout holidaynights.co.uk and see just how cheap some hotels really are, i saw one all inclusive in marmaris for £5 a night once.

You are right M1cksut, the hotel owners are paid a pittance it is the tour companies who get the money. Eating out in Dalyan is most of the fun for a lot of people as there are so many restaurants one can be tried every meal time and you won't go around them twice!!! Some are good but like some hotels there are some that aren't, but that is the same anywhere. Half board isn't really recommended here and yes, in Marmaris fully inclusive can be cheaper than B&B. As they say 'you pays yer money .............................'

When i commented about the Keskin Hotel i was comparing it with past holiday Hotels in Turkey.I have been to Turkey on five previous occasions in different locations and on every occasion stayed h/b.I have also on these holidays eaten out and sampled the local delights.Maybe i was spoilt at the other hotels,maybe i was just unlucky on this occasion.Like i said in a previous post,it did not put me off going to Dalyan again,but having said that i would not use the Keskin Hotel again.

I cannot comment on cheap holidays either in Turkey or England.I do not approach any holiday looking for the cheapest.Maybe Sarah is correct if they do struggle doing h/b then maybe they should just do bed and breakfast.But of course having said that,they do also cater for all inclusive.

I am well aware that a lot of people do keep returning to the Keskin Hotel so maybe i was just unlucky,but i do feel that if certain aspects of my holiday where a let down then i owe it to others to say so.
