Default Very First Visit to Dalyan

Having visited Turkey 20+ times, we are due to embark on our 1st visit to Dalyan in June.

Have tried to register before, but have been 'timed out'.

Will post again with specific questions, but please feel free to share your 'suggestions'

doesnt matter where in turkey you went, dalyan will be better.

unless you want 24 hour clubbing and competitive drunkenness, then you need marmaris.

enjoy it, because after the first time, it will become an obsession.
see that little girl in the red coat?
    her name is Leah.
    that's my princess, that is.
one day soon, i'm going to bring her to Dalyan.

Sorry for the brief initial post, but I was on the way out of the door yesterday when my registration came through, and wanted to get my first post in.

The 3 of us are all beach lovers, and this is probably the main thing that has put Dalyan further down our list of 'maybes' than it might otherwise have been. It is likely that we will be on the beach 9/10 days out of our 2 weeks stay, and the travel time has been a consideration. On the other days we will probably visit Fethiye & Gocek possibly via hire car, Selimiye & Hot Springs on a boat trip, Yavurlak Cay on the Dolmus and a day at one of the local markets.

These days we prefer to stay in private rentals, which gives us a little bit more space and freedom, although the last thing on our minds is self-catering.

Dalyansteve, we have previously visited: Istanbul, Cesme, Kusadasi, Bodrum, Gundogan, Bitez x2, Marmaris (many years ago, lol), Turunc, Datca, Olu Deniz, Kalkan, Adrasan x2, Side x2 and Alanya. I have also had 3 sailing holidays 'with the mates' around the coast resulting in stops and overnights in lots of small out of the way places around the coast from Bodrum, Gocek and Fethiye.

Istanbul stands head and shoulders above the rest, but can honestly say that aside from that, we don't have one particular favourite as they have all had their own particular charms. The one place I wouldn't re-visit is Marmaris. I have driven through it 3/4 times in the last couple of years, and it has just grown too much for our taste.

It might be nice to catch the Dalyan 'bug' as long as the bug isn't a mosquito!

When you have the car, just after leaving Gocek towards Fethiye after the big hill is a turnoff to the right just befor a dual carriageway, this will lead you to Gocek public beach quite a nice stop off point, the other 2 beaches on the way to Fethiye maybe idylic but expensive to park for a short stop. Nowhere has a beach as nice as Iztuzu and the end you get to by road is the end most locals prefer, way too many tourists the other end although the boat trip to it is worth it once or twice. On a Monday you can kill two birds with one stone and do Koycegiz market and Sultaniye for the hot springs on a boat trip, many of the boats make it a full day out with lunch included, probably best to find a boat with full mod cons such as Blue Bead, all are easy to find on the waterfront and preferable to book the night before.

    Welcome to you!

I am sure you will have a fantastic time. You can rest safe with the mosquito's as I will be there in June and they will all be following me around.
Someday soon. Everything will be Acronyms!
