SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, has signed a contract valued at 44 million euros with the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) for the complete update and enhancement of seven air traffic control centers located in Turkey and in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC).

The contract -- confirming SELEX Sistemi Integrati's success in the Systematic Modernization of Air Traffic Management (ATM) Resources in Turkey (SMART) tender -- includes the supply of a national system based in Ankara, able to manage all Turkish airspace, and six approach traffic control centers that will be installed at the Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Dalaman, Ercan and Bodrum airports.

The system supplied by SELEX Sistemi Integrati will support ?disaster recovery? capability, enabling the transfer of air traffic control from the national center in Ankara to centers in Istanbul and Izmir, allowing them to take up the traffic and hence operate as back-up centers.

It will be delivered in two phases and will provide for the modernization of already installed equipment, to be completed in 12 months.
In the second phase, the company will deliver over 190 workstations for air traffic controllers that will be linked to a highly advanced software data system, compliant with Eurocontrol requirements.
The delivery of the supply will be completed over a 36-month period.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati CEO Marina Grossi said: ?The contract signed with DHMI confirms and strengthens the company's leadership in Turkey in the field of air traffic management.
Since the 1980s, SELEX Sistemi Integrati has supplied all those operating in this field in the country -- seven air traffic control centers and 19 radar stations.?

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, in partnership with the Turkish IC I?TAS company of Ibrahim ?e?en Holding, will also provide facilities that will host the new systems in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Ercan, Antalya, Dalaman and Milas-Bodrum.
